The General Directorate of Endowments at the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs has introduced a new initiative called the “Cancer Patients Treatment Endowment” aimed at supporting individuals undergoing cancer treatment. This initiative falls under the Healthcare Waqf Fund and seeks to provide sustained financial support for cancer care services.

Eng. Hassan Abdullah al-Marzouqi, director-general of the General Directorate of Endowments, explained that the endowment is designed to alleviate the financial pressures faced by cancer patients. The fund will facilitate the consistent availability of essential medications and medical devices necessary for treatment through a permanent endowment mechanism.

The initiative is part of broader efforts by the directorate to enhance the healthcare system and expand its scope to meet the community's changing needs. By establishing a source of income-generating waqf investments, the endowment aims to generate ongoing revenue dedicated specifically to cancer treatment expenses.

Al-Marzouqi noted that the endowment will help ease the emotional and financial distress experienced by patients and their families by providing stable funding to cover treatment costs. The structure of the endowment is intended to create durable assets that can be preserved and utilized annually to support cancer patients.

Funds from the endowment will be allocated for purchasing medicines and medical supplies in coordination with state health authorities, following approved priorities. This collaboration aims to ensure that the resources directly address the most urgent needs within the cancer care sector.
