Children’s author Julia Donaldson will bring her book The Baddies to television this Christmas with a new animated adaptation featuring a star-studded voice cast. The festive program includes performances by Sheridan Smith, Rob Brydon, Alison Steadman, and Hammed Animashaun, known for his work on Saturday Night Live UK.
The story revolves around three characters—the Troll, Witch, and Ghost—who proudly claim to be the baddest of the bad as they enjoy causing mischief and tormenting others. Their confidence is tested, however, when they are tasked with stealing a girl’s blue spotty handkerchief, leading to unexpected challenges.
Sheridan Smith, serving as the narrator, described the show as “deliciously spooky, funny and packed with heart,” highlighting its themes of courage, kindness, and the triumph of wit over bullying. Alison Steadman, voicing the Witch, echoed this sentiment, calling it “a satisfying, funny tale about kindness quietly beating bullies.”
Rob Brydon provides the voice for the Ghost, while Hammed Animashaun takes on the role of the Troll. The production combines comedy and fairytale elements to create a lighthearted yet meaningful story suitable for children during the holiday season.
The Baddies is set to offer a fresh and engaging option for family viewing this Christmas, aiming to entertain while promoting positive messages about kindness and resilience.
