Dubai Police have implemented a new medical examination system within their Forensic Medicine Department aimed at accelerating the processing of forensic medical reports and shortening wait times. This development is designed to provide investigators with crucial medical evidence more promptly, supporting more efficient criminal investigations.

Maj Gen Hareb Al Shamsi, Deputy Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Affairs, praised the department’s restructured procedures and adoption of streamlined methods that have reduced the number of steps required to finalize medical reports. Speaking at a ceremony recognizing the department’s staff, Al Shamsi attributed the improvements to effective planning, collaboration, and strategic resource management aligned with the needs of the justice system.

“The enhancement in forensic medicine services directly contributes to the accuracy and effectiveness of criminal investigations by ensuring that case facts are grounded in scientific evidence,” he said. Al Shamsi highlighted the department’s commitment to transforming challenges into opportunities for development, emphasizing the responsibility involved in producing every report and safeguarding legal rights.

Dr Younis Al Baloushi, Director of the Forensic Medicine Department, explained that the updated examination system operates according to well-defined workflows. Cases are now categorized based on the nature and severity of injuries, enabling medical teams to determine the most appropriate examination for each individual case.

For minor injuries, the department leverages existing medical records in coordination with partner organisations to generate reports, allowing for more efficient use of resources. This approach prioritizes individuals with serious injuries, ensuring they receive earlier appointments and timely assessments.

The initiative’s goal is to enhance overall forensic service delivery by reducing delays, thereby bolstering the quality and timeliness of evidence that supports criminal proceedings in Dubai.
