Hollywood Burbank Airport conducted a large-scale trial of its new terminal on September 19, involving approximately 1,500 volunteers and airport staff. This exercise marked the final of three test runs ahead of the terminal’s scheduled opening on October 13. The new facility replaces the airport’s original terminal, which dated back to the 1930s, and seeks to address federal aviation safety requirements while enhancing passenger experience.

Participants, recruited through social media, navigated the airport’s updated infrastructure, including a new parking structure offering around 2,000 spaces and 310 electric vehicle charging stations. Volunteers moved through check-in kiosks, baggage drop areas, and the TSA security checkpoint before entering the modern terminal. The facility features LED departure and arrival screens and updated gate displays. Although retail shops remained closed during the test, restrooms were operational and maintained in a clean condition.

Feedback from attendees was largely positive, with many highlighting the spacious design and overall user-friendly environment as significant improvements over larger regional airports like Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). However, some volunteers noted that signage and wayfinding required refinement to ensure smooth navigation within the terminal.

Airport management indicated they would incorporate volunteer input to address these issues and optimize operational readiness before the official opening. The new terminal’s development reflects ongoing efforts to modernize Hollywood Burbank Airport’s infrastructure and improve convenience and safety for travelers in the region.
