New Jahra Hospital in Kuwait has been accredited as a Centre of Excellence in Robotic Surgery by the American Surgical Review Corporation (SRC), a U.S.-based non-profit organization focused on patient safety and quality of care. The hospital’s Head of Surgery Department, Dr. Mohammad Al-Jasmi, was also named a Surgeon of Excellence in Robotic Surgery for the period from October 2026 to 2029, the Ministry of Health announced on Saturday.

Dr. Al-Jasmi noted that the hospital’s robotic surgery program began its first operation on April 27, 2025, and has since conducted roughly 200 procedures across various specialties, including general surgery and urology. The program supports robotic-assisted surgeries through an integrated system combining medical teams, advanced equipment, and clinical protocols to ensure comprehensive patient care.

The ministry highlighted a significant achievement in October 2025 when three remote robotic surgeries were performed on female patients with uterine cancer. This effort involved collaboration between the Gynaecological Oncology Unit at Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital and the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at New Jahra Hospital. Leveraging remote robotic surgery technology, specialists from both hospitals worked together to apply their expertise and enhance patient outcomes.

According to the Ministry of Health, the SRC accreditation represents a key milestone for New Jahra Hospital’s robotic surgery program. It also illustrates the benefits of inter-hospital cooperation in sharing specialized knowledge and expanding access to cutting-edge surgical technologies within Kuwait’s healthcare system.
