The Royal Mint has issued a new 50p coin to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the film The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, directed by Peter Jackson. Released in partnership with Warner Bros Discovery, the coin marks the beginning of a planned seven-coin series honoring the trilogy over the next three years. Each subsequent release will coincide with the 25th anniversary of the remaining films in the series.

The design of the initial coin highlights the One Ring, a central element in J.R.R. Tolkien's narrative that drives the protagonist Frodo's quest and captivates the character Gollum. Select coins in the collection will feature a hidden image of the Eye of Sauron, described by the Royal Mint as a “groundbreaking” addition.

The commemorative 50p coin is available starting today at 9 a.m. through the Royal Mint’s website. It comes packaged with themed Middle-earth artwork and is priced from £15.
