KUWAIT CITY — The Ministry of Interior’s General Traffic Department announced that it will begin implementing a new Smart Home Impoundment system starting September 6. The system introduces the installation of a device on vehicles at the location of traffic violations, initiating the impoundment period at midnight on the same day.

According to the ministry’s Public Relations and Security Media General Department, this approach allows violators a window to move their vehicles to designated home impoundment locations. A fee of 10 Kuwaiti dinars (KD) will be charged for the installation of the device, with an additional daily storage fee of KD 2 for the duration of the impoundment.

Vehicles currently held at traditional traffic impoundment lots will be transferred to the new home impoundment locations to complete their remaining impoundment periods under the revamped system. Upon completion of the impoundment term, the violator will receive a notification via the Sahel application instructing them to visit a designated General Traffic Department unit to finalize vehicle release procedures.
