Emma Willis, Johannes Radebe, and Josh Widdicombe will take to the dance floor as the new presenting team for the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing, marking a departure from the format established by former hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman. For the first time in the show’s history, the presenters will also be participating in dance routines, beginning with a choreographed opening number featuring all three.
Emma Willis, a seasoned television presenter known for her work on Big Brother, The Voice UK, and The Circle, expressed both excitement and nervousness about the new role. She acknowledged the challenge of stepping into a show that regularly attracts audiences exceeding 10 million viewers and emphasized the team’s goal of maintaining the program’s widespread appeal. Johannes Radebe, a professional dancer with the show since 2018, said he was looking forward to continuing his on-stage dancing alongside his new presenting duties. Comedian Josh Widdicombe, who appeared in the 2024 Strictly Christmas special, also confirmed he would be embracing the dance element as part of his transition into presenting.
The trio’s involvement on stage is a notable shift from previous hosting conventions, with each presenter sharing duties flexibly rather than holding fixed roles. Josh Widdicombe described the arrangement as a departure from the past dynamic, stating that their hosting chemistry allows for a more fluid and interactive approach.
The new team has received support and best wishes from former presenters Daly and Winkleman. Willis, who nearly became a contestant in 2022 before the opportunity did not materialize, revealed a personal connection with the show, having tested dances with Radebe at that time. She also noted that she had previously discouraged her husband, musician Matt Willis, from participating due to concerns about the show's dance style but later reconsidered the idea.
As for the show’s signature glamorous costumes, Willis admitted she was not particularly fond of sequins, although she appreciated them on others. Widdicombe, however, welcomed the traditional glitter and flamboyance, recalling his previous experience wearing a penguin hat during the Christmas special. The presenters have already formed a close working relationship, with Radebe describing the atmosphere as supportive and collaborative.
Widdicombe, drawing on his background as a stand-up comedian accustomed to live performance pressure, shared his strategy for handling nerves. He advised focusing on the job at hand and avoiding reading critiques or commentary, emphasizing the importance of spontaneity and enjoyment on live television.
Strictly Come Dancing’s new series is scheduled to premiere on Saturday, September 19 at 7:25 p.m., with the trio poised to bring a fresh energy to one of Britain’s most popular entertainment programs.
