New York Liberty mounted a late comeback to secure a 95-94 victory over the Chicago Sky on Wednesday night in New York. The Liberty overcame a 12-point deficit in the final five minutes, highlighted by a clutch scoring surge from Sabrina Ionescu.

Ionescu, who finished with 29 points, scored nine of those in the last minute alone. Trailing 91-85 with under a minute remaining, she hit a contested three-pointer from the corner and followed with another three, then completed a three-point play with 15.1 seconds left to tie the score at 94. Jonquel Jones then made a crucial free throw with 3.4 seconds remaining, securing the Liberty’s one-point lead after Chicago missed a final shot.

Breanna Stewart contributed 20 points and nine rebounds for New York (15-12), while Jones added a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Rebecca Allen also added 12 points. Ionescu was highly efficient, shooting 8 of 11 from the field including five three-pointers, and converting all eight of her free throws.

For the Chicago Sky (9-18), Sydney Taylor recorded a career-high 31 points along with Gabriela Jaquez and Courtney Vandersloot, who scored 10 and 14 points respectively. The Sky held a narrow one-point lead entering the fourth quarter, then extended their lead to 84-72 midway through the period, fueled by a three-pointer from Taylor.

New York responded with a series of key plays, including Stewart’s basket and three-pointers from Jones and Ionescu, the latter followed by a four-point play. With 2:35 left, Stewart blocked a layup attempt by Vandersloot and scored on the other end, bringing New York within 86-85 and igniting the Liberty’s rally to close out the game.

The tight finish underscores New York’s resilience as they improved their record, while Chicago fell further behind in the standings despite standout individual performances.
