NEW YORK — The New York Liberty secured a spot in the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup final with an 86-64 victory over the Washington Mystics on Sunday. Breanna Stewart led the charge with 14 points, 12 rebounds, and a career-high seven blocks, while Jonquel Jones contributed 20 points, 17 of which came in the second half, as the Liberty improved to 10-4 and extended their winning streak to seven games.

After a slow start to the third quarter, New York coach Chris DeMarco called a timeout that sparked a turnaround. Jones then scored seven consecutive points to push the Liberty’s lead into double digits. The team outscored Washington significantly during the period, with Jones tallying 12 points in the frame.

The Mystics showed resilience, narrowing the deficit to 58-50 late in the third quarter thanks to a three-pointer from Michaela Onyenwere. Onyenwere finished with 17 points, marking her third consecutive game scoring at least that amount. Sonia Citron was Washington’s only other player in double figures with 12 points. Despite their efforts, the Mystics (5-7) could not overcome New York’s response, which included a decisive 12-0 run featuring five different Liberty scorers that effectively put the contest out of reach.

The Liberty have now reached the Commissioner’s Cup final for the third time, having won once and lost once in previous appearances. They will wait to learn their opponent from the Western Conference and whether they will host the title game, which depends on comparative overall team records.

Sabrina Ionescu returned to action for New York after missing seven games due to back soreness. This marked her second appearance following an ankle injury earlier in the regular season. Entering midway through the first quarter to a warm crowd reception, Ionescu made an immediate impact by delivering three notable assists, including one that set up Leonie Fiebich’s three-pointer, extending New York’s early lead to 20-13. At halftime, the Liberty led 36-28, with Stewart posting 11 points, 10 rebounds, and five blocks in the opening 20 minutes. Stewart became only the second player in WNBA history, alongside Brittney Griner, to record at least 10 points, 10 rebounds, and five blocks in a half.

With Ionescu back in the lineup, New York had its full roster available for the first time this season. Washington, meanwhile, was without Kiki Iriafen for the second consecutive game due to a sprained ankle sustained last week against the Indiana Fever. The Mystics also entered Sunday's game after achieving a dramatic last-second victory over the Toronto Tempo on Friday.
