Five new slot holders have joined the roster for the $1.5 million TAB Eureka, the world’s richest pacing race, set to take place at Club Menangle. These newcomers will join five foundation slot holders who have committed to a further two years for the 2300-meter event, which will be held in a new November 21 timeslot.
Rob Watson, representing Soho Standardbreds, is among the returning slot holders. Watson, who paired with Bay Of Biscay to win last year’s race, expressed enthusiasm about securing a slot again. He described the opportunity as an important one for the industry, highlighting the strong attendance at Menangle and the broader attention the race brings to harness racing.
Watson emphasized the significance of maintaining high-profile events like the Eureka, noting their role in sustaining the sport's relevance. He likened the impact of the Eureka on harness racing to that of The Everest in thoroughbred racing, referring to it as a "mega-race" that provides aspirational goals for participants and fans alike.
Alongside Soho Standardbreds, returning slot holders include Cordina Racing, Kevin and Kay Seymour, Team Zav, and Western Jewel. The addition of five new slot holders aims to bolster the competition and continue building momentum for what has become a marquee event in the Australian harness racing calendar.
