Newcastle United are likely to be without captain Dan Burn for their upcoming match against Coventry City on Monday as the defender continues to recover from an ankle injury. The 34-year-old has yet to feature under new head coach Matthias Jaissle this season and was also absent from the club's recent friendly against Middlesbrough.

Jaissle’s squad has faced a series of injury setbacks, with as many as nine players unavailable during Newcastle’s last Premier League fixture against Hull City. However, there are signs of progress in the injury recovery department. Forward Joelinton has resumed training after dealing with a thigh problem, while Nico Gonzalez is available for selection following a concussion.

Speaking ahead of the Coventry game, Jaissle expressed optimism about the return of some key players. “We are hopeful there will be three or four back. Joey (Joelinton) is progressing well. We need warriors in the team. We are really happy to have him back,” the coach said.

Burn’s absence adds to the defensive challenge Newcastle faces as they look to stabilize their squad amid injury concerns. The team will be looking to build cohesion under Jaissle’s management as they navigate the early stages of the season.
