Newcastle United have been linked with a potential move for Braga goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek as they seek to strengthen their options between the posts. The 24-year-old Czech international, who is contracted to the Portuguese club for two more seasons, has attracted attention following his performances in the Europa Conference League qualifiers.

Despite reports suggesting that Newcastle are among the interested parties, sources indicate that discussions about a possible deal have slowed. Hornicek has a reported release clause set at £29.5 million, a figure that a Premier League club, identified by Braga president Antonio Salvador as Hull City, reportedly met earlier this summer. However, Hornicek declined the opportunity to move, opting to remain at Braga.

Salvador confirmed the situation, stating that while there was a concrete offer from England that met the contractual valuation, the player chose not to proceed with the transfer. “It is the player who makes the decisions, not the club,” the Braga president said.

Hornicek’s refusal to move suggests that Newcastle, along with other Premier League clubs, may face challenges securing his signature despite their interest. His recent display against Zeleznicar in European competition underlines his potential value, though any future transfer would depend on the goalkeeper’s willingness to make the move.

With Newcastle actively pursuing reinforcements in goal, Hornicek remains a noted option, but his preference to stay at Braga for the time being means the club may need to explore additional targets as the transfer window progresses.
