Newmarket Racecourse is preparing for a heatwave as it hosts the three-day July Festival starting Thursday, with temperatures expected to reach around 30 to 31 degrees Celsius. Despite the forecasted heat, race officials have stated that no adjustments to the race schedule are planned, unlike during last month’s heatwave when some events were shifted to morning starts to avoid peak temperatures.

Andrew Morris, clerk of the course, said the warm conditions are being closely monitored, but there are currently no weather warnings for the region. He emphasized that the welfare of horses and participants remains the top priority, with contingency plans in place if needed.

The July Festival will feature several notable races, including Saturday’s Group 1 Al Basti Equiworld Dubai July Cup, which attracted a strong field of 13 runners. Among the contenders is Venetian Sun, trained by Karl Burke, who arrives as the 2-1 favourite following a victory in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot.

Race officials expressed confidence that the event will proceed smoothly despite the hot weather, maintaining standard schedules while ensuring appropriate measures are ready to address any heat-related concerns.
