The University of New South Wales (UNSW) has secured free access to digital news platforms from News Corp Australia through a new campus subscription initiative. The agreement, announced this week, provides students and staff with premium access to a broad range of national, state, regional, and local reporting via desktop, mobile devices, apps, newsletters, and podcasts.

As part of the program, UNSW will offer opportunities for deeper engagement with News Corp through internships, guest lectures, roundtable discussions, and campus events. Notably, the partnership includes participation in UNSW’s Kensington Campus Orientation Week scheduled for February 2027. Access to The Daily Telegraph, another News Corp publication, is also included under the arrangement.

The Australian’s editor-in-chief, Michelle Gunn, highlighted the educational value of the initiative, stating that trusted journalism plays a critical role in helping students navigate complex domestic and global issues. Gunn described the program as an invitation for UNSW students and educators “to challenge orthodoxies, ask hard questions and engage with our reporting.” She emphasized the diverse coverage available through The Australian, spanning politics, business, technology, health, wealth, and culture.

Verity Frith, UNSW vice-president for societal impact, equity and engagement, underscored the importance of reliable information in an era marked by widespread skepticism toward media. She expressed enthusiasm about the university community’s new access to News Corp’s publications, stressing that quality journalism supports informed discussion and helps individuals understand the diverse perspectives that shape society. Frith noted the benefit for students and staff across disciplines, whether following current affairs or researching developments relevant to their fields.

The subscription rollout will be facilitated through a specially designed co-branded registration portal and reinforced by communications via UNSW’s student channels, newsletters, and on-campus events. This initiative reflects ongoing efforts to enhance campus resources and foster informed engagement with the news media.
