Over the course of Newsom’s eight years in office, California’s expenditures have increased by approximately 40 percent after accounting for inflation. Despite this spending growth, several long-term infrastructure projects have faced delays or setbacks, including the development of high-speed rail, expansion of water reservoirs, and comprehensive brush clearance efforts to mitigate wildfire risks.
