As the 2026 World Cup approaches, the new generation of football players’ wives and girlfriends (WAGs) are expected to leave a subtler mark compared to their predecessors from two decades ago. Unlike the high-profile and often headline-grabbing figures of the 2006 tournament in Germany, this group is characterized by a blend of professional accomplishments and a more understated public presence.
The upcoming tournament, set to take place across the United States, Mexico, and Canada starting June 11, will see partners who work in diverse fields, including law, engineering, marketing, nursing, and interior design, accompanying the players. While these women maintain busy careers—ranging from a lawyer at a prominent global firm to an AI engineer at a software company—they are no strangers to occasional social outings and luxury shopping sprees.
One notable difference this time around is the timing of their arrival. According to England’s manager Thomas Tuchel, the squad and their families will travel to the U.S. earlier than usual to acclimate to expected conditions, including heat and humidity. Tuchel emphasized the importance of balancing preparation with time for family and friends, stating the early camp offers “a good mix between free time, family-friends time, and football.”
Several of the partners are already recognized within football circles. Katie Kane, wife of England captain Harry Kane and a sports science graduate, continues to be a prominent figure among the group. Another well-known partner is Megan Davison, married to goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, noted for her fashion-forward presence at matches. However, she faces competition from emerging figures like Ashlyn Castro, girlfriend of Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham. Castro, a California-based model and influencer with over 700,000 Instagram followers, is expected to feature prominently on social media throughout the event. Her familiarity with warm climates may prove advantageous, as this World Cup is anticipated to be among the hottest on record.
Among the notable professionals is Olivia Parvia, a lawyer dating Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, who works for global firm Gunnercooke. Despite her professional focus, Parvia enjoys socializing and high-end fashion, recently spotted carrying a luxury Chanel handbag valued at around £4,000. Another lawyer turned AI engineer, Mia McClenaghan, is the long-term partner of Chelsea captain Reece James, working in software development with Thomson.
While the new wave of WAGs remains glamorous, their approach reflects contemporary values of independence and professionalism, resulting in a less conspicuous but still significant presence at the World Cup this summer.
