The National Football League announced suspensions on Monday involving two game officials following incidents during weekend matchups. Line judge Jeff Seeman was suspended for two games after he was recorded using profanity directed at Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride during Sunday’s game against the New York Giants. The exchange occurred late in the fourth quarter, shortly after officials declined to call a penalty on Giants defender Dru Phillips for contact with McBride prior to a pass from Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett.
In a separate matter, referee Adrian Hill received a one-game suspension for unprofessional conduct during the Miami Dolphins–Minnesota Vikings game. Hill was seen yelling at Vikings linebacker Eric Wilson and signaling for him to move away after Wilson attempted to assist Hill to his feet following a collision.
The league’s vice president of officiating, Ramon George, issued the suspensions. The NFL Referees Association had not responded to requests for comment by Tuesday.
In addition to disciplinary actions, multiple teams reported injury updates from recent games. Chiefs wide receiver Tyquan Thornton is expected to be sidelined for 12 to 16 weeks after dislocating his left ankle and sustaining ligament damage. Ravens coach Jesse Minter described quarterback Lamar Jackson’s ankle injury as minor but provided no further details regarding his playing status. The Arizona Cardinals confirmed that starting left tackle Paris Johnson Jr. will miss the remainder of the season after tearing his left biceps.
Other teams also faced injury setbacks. The Pittsburgh Steelers placed defensive tackle Derrick Harmon on injured reserve due to a foot injury, while the Green Bay Packers expect linebacker Edgerrin Cooper to miss the rest of the season after an Achilles injury. Vikings defensive lineman Donovan Jackson is likely out for the season with a torn meniscus. The San Francisco 49ers anticipate that fullback Kyle Juszczyk will be sidelined for a few weeks with a knee injury. The Colts and Dolphins also reported injuries to Arden Key (hamstring) and Reese Taylor (quad), respectively.
On the Chargers’ injury front, left tackle Rashawn Slater suffered a high-ankle sprain and could be placed on injured reserve, while teammates Joe Alt, Ladd McConkey, Donte Jackson, and Derwin James Jr. are dealing with various injuries and will be evaluated ahead of upcoming games.
Several teams are in the process of managing rosters and injury reports as they prepare for their next regular-season contests, including Sunday’s game for the Chargers and “Monday Night Football” matchups such as the Los Angeles Rams versus the Buffalo Bills.
