A New Hampshire woman died after being shot by her son, who then fatally shot himself, in an incident that also left two other family members wounded, authorities said Monday. The shooting occurred on August 11 at the Hilltop trailer park in Whitefield.

Amy Blake, 59, succumbed to a gunshot wound to the head after being hospitalized in critical condition, according to a joint statement from New Hampshire Attorney General John M. Formella, N.H. State Police Colonel Mark B. Hall, and Whitefield Police Chief Maxwell Hodgdon. Her son, Eric Blake Jr., 29, died at the hospital from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, which was ruled a suicide.

The family’s other two members, Eric Blake Sr., 53, and Michael Marro, 41, were also shot in the head during the incident. Despite his injuries, Eric Blake Sr. was able to drive himself to a local hospital and report the shooting. He is expected to survive. Marro’s wound has been described as catastrophic, and he remains in critical condition.

Authorities responded to the family residence at 3 Hilltop Manor Street following the early morning shooting. All victims were found at the scene with gunshot wounds to the head.

Mental illness is believed to have been a contributing factor in the shooting, officials noted. With Eric Blake Jr. deceased, no criminal charges can be filed in connection with his actions.
