Hospital admissions for burns and injuries related to fireworks have risen in England, prompting a safety warning from NHS officials. According to NHS England data, 85 people were admitted to hospitals in November 2025 due to fireworks-related injuries, up from 60 in November 2024. Over the entire year of 2025, total admissions reached 161, compared with 120 in the previous 12 months.
Professor Frankie Swords, NHS medical director, highlighted the risks associated with bonfire night celebrations. While emphasizing that the event offers a valuable opportunity for social gatherings with friends and family, he cautioned that children are particularly vulnerable to harm if fireworks are mishandled.
These figures underline renewed concerns about public safety during seasonal festivities involving fireworks. Health officials continue to urge the public to follow safety guidelines carefully to prevent such injuries, especially among younger individuals who may be more at risk.
