Aston Villa striker Nicolas Jackson has made a strong start to his tenure under manager Unai Emery, who has expressed confidence in the forward’s potential to become one of the world’s leading players. Jackson, who joined Villa in August for £65 million, has already scored seven goals in 11 appearances, signaling a promising chapter after a troubled spell at Chelsea.
Emery, who previously coached Jackson at Villarreal, has emphasized the 25-year-old’s improved discipline and maturity on the pitch. During his time at Chelsea from 2023 to 2025, Jackson received 18 bookings and was sent off twice. In contrast, he has accumulated only two yellow cards for Aston Villa so far this season, reflecting progress in managing his emotions during matches.
Jackson’s loan stint at Bayern Munich was less successful, where he struggled for playing time behind established striker Harry Kane. However, Emery believes that Jackson’s work ethic, mentality, and ambition set the stage for further development. “I believe he can do it through his work rate, his mentality and through the ambitious demands he sets himself,” Emery said. “He is an intelligent guy. He is focused on football in the way every player should be. I am optimistic and I believe he can do it.”
Jackson’s impact on Aston Villa was highlighted in their recent 2-1 victory over Manchester City, where he scored both goals. Emery noted that while the striker has shown improvements, controlling emotions on the field remains an ongoing process. During a match against Nottingham Forest, Jackson was substituted at halftime due to emotional issues, but the manager praised his progress since then.
“He can get better by managing himself and his emotions on the field,” Emery explained. “This is a process for a lot of young players and experience helps them achieve it. After that, he is showing he is learning.”
With continued guidance from Emery and increased experience in the Premier League, Jackson appears poised to further establish himself as a top forward in English football.
