Nigella Lawson, the well-known television chef and author, has expanded her business ventures with the establishment of a new company focused on alcoholic beverages. The 66-year-old culinary personality has launched Bar Nigella Limited, registering the name as a trademark for a wide range of spirits including gin, vodka, tequila, rum, agave spirit, mezcal, brandy, sake, whisky, liqueurs, pre-mixed cocktails, and calvados.
This move into the alcohol sector marks a notable diversification for Lawson, who has built her reputation primarily through cookbooks and television shows. Despite the new endeavor, Lawson has acknowledged her personal reservations about alcohol consumption. She has described herself as “not very good” at drinking and has reduced her intake due to its tendency to heighten her anxiety. Lawson explained that although she is not a heavy drinker, she sometimes tries to consume alcohol in social settings to avoid feeling disconnected from others at parties.
Lawson’s colleagues in the culinary world have praised her presence on television. Fellow judge Paul Hollywood has referred to her as the “Queen of Bake Off,” highlighting her expertise and appeal on the popular baking competition show.
While Lawson’s foray into the beverage market is a recent development, the company registration indicates a strategic move to leverage her brand beyond cooking, potentially entering the competitive spirits industry with a varied product lineup. Details about product launches or distribution plans have not yet been announced.
