Abu Dhabi-based investment company Diafa, owned by Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is expanding its footprint in the Los Angeles hospitality sector through strategic acquisitions and high-profile bids. The firm acquired a majority stake in the H.wood Group, a prominent nightlife and hospitality operator founded by John Terzian and Brian Toll, last year and has since pursued additional properties in the area.

Sources reveal that Diafa, leveraging its partnership with H.wood Group, submitted offers in the hundreds of millions of dollars for several notable Los Angeles venues, including the Sunset Tower Hotel and the private San Vicente Bungalows club, both located in West Hollywood. These bids were reportedly declined by the properties’ owner, Jeff Klein. While one industry report placed the offer at approximately $700 million, sources familiar with the matter indicate the actual figure was somewhat lower.

In addition to these attempts, Diafa also sought to acquire the historic Chateau Marmont, owned by André Balazs, as well as Funke, a celebrated Beverly Hills restaurant helmed by chef Evan Funke. These moves primarily aim to consolidate a broad portfolio of high-end hospitality assets in the Los Angeles area.

Diafa already holds a majority stake in the hospitality group of British restaurateur Richard Caring, which includes upscale venues such as Annabel’s, Sexy Fish, Scott’s, and the Ivy. According to insiders, Diafa intends to continue aggregating hospitality properties with the goal of eventually taking the combined group public. Representatives for Diafa did not respond to requests for comment.
