Nine people, including two children and a pregnant woman, were killed in a mass shooting at a residence in Erie, Pennsylvania, on Friday. The gunman reportedly began shooting outside the family home before entering and continuing his attack inside the building.
Authorities discovered two female victims lying dead on the road outside the house and found seven more people deceased inside. Following the initial assault, the shooter barricaded himself within the property and engaged in a prolonged standoff with a SWAT team before ultimately taking his own life.
Erie Police Chief Rick Lorah described the scene as one of the most tragic his officers have encountered, emphasizing the profound loss suffered by the victims’ families and the community. The names of the victims have not been released out of respect, and police have not yet disclosed the identity or motive of the shooter.
Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the attack as the community grapples with the aftermath of the incident.
