New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill has publicly called for the resignation of Lieutenant Governor Dale Caldwell following the release of an independent investigation that uncovered multiple allegations of sexual harassment and ethical violations. The investigation, detailed in a 61-page report made public Thursday, outlines a series of inappropriate actions by Caldwell, 66, including attempts to secure a state promotion for his girlfriend, making a sexually explicit comment to a staff member, and using his official position to obtain costly event tickets for personal acquaintances.

The Governor’s office initiated the inquiry in May after receiving an anonymous letter alleging Caldwell's misconduct toward women. The subsequent investigation identified a pattern of behavior inconsistent with the standards expected of public officials. According to the report, Caldwell also directed staff to assist in finding him a "first lady," further raising concerns about his conduct in office.

In response to the findings, Governor Sherrill stated she is demanding Caldwell’s resignation and has given him until the following day to step down. "I hold everyone in my Administration to the highest ethical standard," Sherrill said. "We all have a duty to follow our state ethics and harassment policy and our Code of Conduct. Anyone who violates these will be held accountable."

Caldwell has yet to publicly comment on the report or the governor’s call for his resignation. The investigation’s revelations come amid increasing scrutiny of conduct within political administrations, highlighting ongoing challenges in maintaining ethical oversight and accountability.
