CHICAGO — Nneka Ogwumike became the Los Angeles Sparks' all-time leading scorer during a 96-82 defeat to the Chicago Sky on Friday night at Wintrust Arena.

Ogwumike scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, moving past Lisa Leslie’s career scoring total for the Sparks with a short jumper early in the first quarter. Her 6,281 points with Los Angeles place her atop the franchise’s records, while her 7,703 career points overall rank her third in WNBA history. Additionally, Ogwumike pulled down her 3,473rd rebound, surpassing Candace Parker to move into third place on the league’s all-time rebounds list.

Sydney Taylor led Chicago with 19 points, including four three-pointers, while Kamilla Cardoso contributed a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds along with two blocked shots. Natasha Cloud added 15 points and nine rebounds, Jacy Sheldon scored 14, and Azura Stevens chipped in 12. The Sky improved to 9-16 overall and avenged a 102-87 loss to the Sparks in Los Angeles last Friday.

Dearica Hamby and Erica Wheeler led Los Angeles scorers with 18 and 14 points, respectively. The Sparks fell to 10-14 on the season and have lost eight of their last eleven games, including the first three contests of their current four-game road trip.

Ogwumike, the No. 1 overall pick by the Sparks in the 2012 WNBA Draft, returned to Los Angeles this season after two years with the Seattle Storm. On Wednesday, she scored 23 points in a loss at Minnesota, tying Leslie’s franchise record.

The Sparks were without All-Star guard Kelsey Plum for her eighth consecutive game due to a leg injury. Chicago’s Skylar Diggins also remained sidelined with a knee injury for the fifth straight contest.
