Ivory Coast forward Elye Wahi will not travel with the national team to Canada for their upcoming World Cup match against Germany in Toronto, scheduled for tomorrow. The Ivory Coast Football Federation (FIF) cited difficulties in obtaining the necessary administrative authorizations for Wahi's entry into Canadian territory. As a result, Wahi will remain in the United States, where the team is currently based, awaiting the squad’s return after the match.

Wahi, 23, who plays for Nice in France, has been under investigation in France related to alleged betting-related offenses. French Ligue de Football (LFP) officials disclosed that an unusual volume of international bets were placed on Wahi receiving a yellow card during a Ligue 1 game between Nice and Metz on May 17, which ended 0-0. Wahi was booked in that match, and the LFP passed the information to the relevant police, gambling authorities, and the French Football Federation for further investigation.

Despite the ongoing inquiry, the FIF has maintained its support for Wahi, stating it has not been officially notified of any judicial or administrative proceedings against the player. The federation described this as a “particularly delicate period” and reaffirmed Wahi’s importance to the national team.

Conflicting reports have emerged regarding Wahi’s travel status. While initial statements from the FIF indicated that Wahi would be unable to join the team in Canada, a subsequent release suggested that he had obtained the necessary permission to enter the country for the match. However, other sources confirmed that Canadian authorities denied Wahi a visa, preventing his travel. The exact reason for the visa denial remains tied to the administrative process related to the investigation.

Wahi started in Ivory Coast’s 1-0 victory over Ecuador last Monday in Philadelphia, marking the team's opening Group E fixture. The team will complete its group stage campaign against Curaçao next Thursday, also in Philadelphia.

The Ivory Coast federation has pledged to continue monitoring the situation and promised to provide official updates as new information becomes available. Meanwhile, Wahi remains with the squad in the United States, away from the team’s next fixture in Canada, as investigations continue in France.
