Dubai’s Ibn Battuta Mall is undergoing significant expansion, with 38 new retail, dining, and entertainment outlets either recently opened or scheduled to open by the end of 2027, according to figures released by Dubai Retail. The announcement comes in response to social media speculation about the mall’s future, which suggested a decline in foot traffic based on isolated visits.
Ibn Battuta Mall, established in 2005 and named after the 14th-century explorer, currently houses over 350 businesses and averages around 1.5 million visitors each month. The mall is known for its six architecturally themed courts inspired by Ibn Battuta’s travels, offering a blend of shopping, dining, and entertainment.
Of the 38 new additions, 21 businesses are already operating, while 17 are expected to launch within the next four years. The recent openings include a variety of restaurants and cafés such as Five Guys, Jimmy John’s Sandwiches, Marugame Udon, Caribou Coffee, Halla Shawarma, Zaika, and Butter & Bread. Upcoming food and beverage brands set to join the mall include Peet’s Coffee, Ocean Basket, Asia Kitchen, and Smoothie Factory.
On the entertainment front, the mall will welcome Roxy Cinemas, promising an enhanced cinema experience. Other planned leisure attractions include the family-oriented Hopa Loompa Entertainment. Recent entertainment additions include Zamania by Leo & Loona and Like Bricks, with Toy Station also preparing to open soon.
The retail sector has seen openings of stores such as Jack & Jones, Anta, Tanishq, Magrabi, Mumuso, and Suit Sartoria. Further retail brands in the pipeline include OWNDAYS, Puzzle Supplements, Chemist Warehouse, Midi, My Shops, and Cantata.
The evolving tenant mix increasingly incorporates non-traditional categories, with new and forthcoming businesses in banking, healthcare, education, and professional services. Notable additions include ADCB bank, Amit Care, Doctor M healthcare services, Melodica music academy, and Desco Copy & Print Centre.
Dubai Retail highlighted that residential developments around Ibn Battuta Mall over the past decade have brought greater diversity and a larger customer base to the area. The planned expansions are designed to strengthen the mall’s position as both a destination for unique experiences and a convenient hub for the surrounding communities. While social media snapshots have raised questions about activity levels at the mall, the comprehensive redevelopment strategy signals ongoing investment and confidence in its future viability.
