Malaysia’s men’s singles badminton players are set to make their Asian Games debut at the Aichi-Nagoya Games, scheduled from September 19 to October 4, aiming to establish themselves despite modest external expectations. The quartet—Leong Jun Hao, Justin Hoh, Eogene Ewe, and Kong Wei Xiang—will compete with a focus on both individual and team events.

Leong Jun Hao, the country’s top-ranked men’s singles player, and Justin Hoh are entered in the individual competition, while Ewe and Kong will participate in the men’s team event. The team matches are slated to take place at the Ichinomiya City Municipal Gymnasium in Aichi from September 20 to 24, with individual events following from September 25 to 29.

National men’s singles head coach Datuk Tey Seu Bock expressed optimism about the squad’s preparation, highlighting steady progress in recent weeks. "Our preparations have been going well, and I hope they can perform well in Japan," he remarked, adding that the players are in strong mental and physical condition ahead of the Games.

The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has set a pragmatic goal of securing at least a silver medal, viewing the men’s doubles category as their strongest medal prospect this year. Nonetheless, the men’s singles team remains determined to make an impact despite facing fierce competition.

The 2026 Asian Games also signify a personal milestone for Datuk Tey Seu Bock, returning as a coach after a 12-year hiatus. His previous appearance was at the 2014 Games in Incheon, where he notably guided Datuk Seri Lee Chong Wei to a men’s singles final.

At the last Asian Games in Hangzhou in 2022, Malaysia's men’s singles representation came from Lee Zii Jia and Ng Tze Yong, both of whom were eliminated in the quarter-final stages. This year’s lineup seeks to build on past experiences and push deeper into the latter rounds of the competition.
