Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge expects a markedly different contest when his team faces Sydney in their Friday night rematch at the Sydney Cricket Ground. This encounter follows a heavy 66-point loss for the Bulldogs in their earlier meeting during round seven, where Sydney’s offensive firepower overwhelmed the Bulldogs’ defence.
In that initial clash, Sydney forwards Charlie Curnow, Chad Warner, and Joel Amartey scored seven, three, and three goals respectively, contributing significantly to the margin. Beveridge cited Sydney’s speed and aggressive playing style as key challenges that led to the Bulldogs’ difficulties in that game.
However, Beveridge emphasized that both teams would field significantly altered line-ups compared to their previous encounter. The Bulldogs’ team for Friday is expected to feature nine to ten different players from round seven, while Sydney is likely to have five or six changes. Notably, Sydney will welcome back key players Isaac Heeney and Errol Gulden, who did not participate in the earlier match against the Bulldogs.
At the same time, Sydney is set to be without several important figures, including Jack Wicks, Logan McInerney, and James Papley. Beveridge acknowledged the impact of these absences but remained cautious, recognizing the Swans’ ability to adapt and pose a strong challenge despite the changes.
Given the shifts in personnel and the lessons from their previous encounter, Beveridge is confident the Bulldogs will present a much-improved performance on Friday night. Both teams’ adjustments are expected to lead to a more balanced and competitive game, departing significantly from the one-sided outcome witnessed in their earlier meeting this season.
