Sydney reinsman Will Rixon has maintained a demanding schedule across several racing venues in recent days, juggling multiple engagements while competing at a high level. Over the past week, Rixon traveled extensively, including stints in Queensland, Bathurst, Wagga, and various New South Wales tracks, demonstrating his commitment to driving for multiple stables and owners.
Rixon’s prominent focus has been the Queensland Interdominion Pacing Championship, where he is driving Max Delight, a millionaire pacer trained by David Aiken. The Interdominion, one of harness racing’s premier events, has presented challenges, particularly with Max Delight drawing an unfavorable barrier on the outside of the backline in the ongoing series. Despite this, Rixon expressed optimism about the horse’s chances, noting the critical importance of accumulating points to reach the final. Max Delight finished third in a recent heat, a performance the driver described as encouraging.
Beyond his Queensland commitments, Rixon has been collaborating with other notable trainers, including Sam Hewitt and David Thorn, while continuing to drive horses for his parents, Peter and Cindy. His recent itinerary has been intense: participating in trials at Menangle on a Wednesday morning, traveling to Bathurst the same day, competing at Wagga on Friday, and driving at Penrith upon returning to Sydney late Thursday night, where he completed drives in the final three races.
“It has certainly been a busy time,” Rixon said, emphasizing the importance of effective planning to meet the logistical demands of his schedule. He credited the support of trainers and owners who accommodate his travel and racing commitments, allowing him to drive quality horses across different venues.
In addition, Rixon has been delivering strong results in partnership with his uncle, Steve Turnbull, with whom he is set to combine in two races at Bathurst.
Rixon’s steady presence across multiple circuits, paired with competitive mounts like Max Delight, signals an ongoing period of intense activity as he pursues success on the harness racing circuit.
