St. Paul, Minn. — The Boston Bruins fell to the Minnesota Wild 4-1 at Grand Casino Arena on Saturday night, unable to replicate their previous day’s comeback in Winnipeg. After taking an early lead less than two minutes into the game, Boston struggled to keep pace with a fresh and fast Minnesota squad that dominated play through the final two periods.
Tanner Jeannot opened the scoring for Boston with a well-executed goal off a pass from Mark Kastelic, marking Jeannot’s first goal of the season. However, Bruins goaltender Jesper Wallstedt held firm from that point forward, stopping all 25 subsequent shots he faced. Minnesota responded forcefully in the second period with power-play goals from Kirill Kaprizov and Quinn Hughes, swinging momentum firmly in the Wild’s favor.
Jared Spurgeon extended Minnesota’s lead in the third period, and Kaprizov added an empty-net goal to seal the victory. The Wild’s quicker transitions and ability to reach loose pucks before the Bruins were decisive factors in controlling the game after the opening frame.
Boston’s new goalie Michael DiPietro made his season debut and recorded 26 saves, including several with notable athleticism, drawing comparisons to former Bruins standout Tim Thomas. Despite his strong individual performance, the Bruins were unable to overcome Minnesota’s sustained pressure.
The loss dropped Boston’s record to 2-1. The Bruins are scheduled to return home and host the Ottawa Senators on Monday.
