Non-League clubs have been active in the transfer market, strengthening their squads ahead of the upcoming season with several notable signings.
EBBSFLEET United manager Josh Wright has bolstered his defensive options by securing the services of Will Tizzard. The 23-year-old defender arrives from Sutton United, having spent the latter part of last season on loan at Torquay United, where he participated in the National League South promotion final. Tizzard began his career in Southampton’s academy and gained senior experience during a loan spell at Chippenham Town. He later spent two seasons in the Scottish Championship with Queen’s Park, reaching the final of the Scottish Challenge Cup before returning to England to join Sutton United in the summer.
Chelmsford City has acquired promising forward Kamani McFarlane, a 22-year-old attacker who impressed last season scoring 19 goals in Step 4 with Herne Bay. The club’s head of football, John Still, expressed confidence in McFarlane’s potential to influence matches at a higher level. Still highlighted McFarlane’s creativity and ability to excite supporters, describing him as a player capable of injecting something different into the team. McFarlane previously played for Mousehole and Maldon & Tiptree.
At Tonbridge Angels, former Millwall defender Tony Craig has joined the coaching staff as assistant to Alan Dunne following his retirement from playing. Craig, who made 845 career appearances over 24 years and captained Millwall, concluded his playing career with Dorking Wanderers last spring. The 41-year-old cited his longstanding friendship with Dunne and enthusiasm for the club’s project as key factors in his decision to begin his coaching career at Longmead.
In Billericay Town, manager Danny Scopes continues to strengthen his squad, adding winger Matty Macarthur as his fifth signing of the summer. Macarthur, 21, was born in Sydney, Australia, and developed through the youth ranks of Western Sydney Wanderers before joining Southampton at age 15. Since departing Southampton, he has represented several clubs including Gillingham, Farnborough, Dartford, Tonbridge Angels, and Enfield Town. Macarthur expressed excitement at his move and eagerness to integrate into the club.
These acquisitions reflect the ongoing efforts by non-League teams to enhance their rosters and competitiveness ahead of the new campaign.
