Nora Josefina Armenta, a Bozeman, Montana resident known for her professional integrity and adventurous spirit, died peacefully at home on October 27, 2026, at the age of 94. Born Nora Josefina Peña Semprún in Venezuela, she relocated to the United States to pursue higher education, where she met her future husband, Faustino “Tino” Armenta. The couple married in 1962 and shared 58 years together, raising two children.
Ms. Armenta earned a business degree followed by an MBA, leading to a successful career as a purchasing executive with multinational corporations. She is notably remembered for her role as a whistleblower in a prolonged False Claims Act case against a municipal waterworks manufacturer. Her refusal to certify non-conforming parts triggered a 13-year legal battle that ultimately resulted in significant recoveries for California municipalities and helped establish important legal precedent.
After retiring, Nora and her husband embarked on extensive travels, visiting 96 countries and embracing diverse cultures. She was an enthusiastic bargain hunter and a skilled cook, often hosting generous gatherings that showcased Venezuelan culinary traditions alongside her own recipes.
Ms. Armenta was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, extended family members, and numerous friends. A private memorial service will be held in Bozeman, with her ashes planned to be scattered at sea alongside those of her late husband.
