Sunderland defender Nordi Mukiele criticized his teammates’ attitude following their 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth in a Premier League match on Saturday. The loss extended Sunderland’s winless streak away from home and left the club anchored near the bottom of the league table.

Bournemouth took an early lead through Marcus Tavernier in the sixth minute. The visitors were further disadvantaged when Sunderland’s Kevin Danso received a red card in the 17th minute for denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity. Evanilson later doubled Bournemouth’s advantage, securing the Cherries’ first Premier League victory of the season under manager Marco Rose.

In his post-match comments, Mukiele openly admitted that Sunderland’s performance reflected a level of arrogance that contributed to their poor run. “We are not good enough. We deserve to be where we are. Why? I don’t know. Maybe because we became arrogant,” he said.

Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris acknowledged the team’s unfavourable start and stressed the need for his squad to adapt to challenging situations. “It was a bad start which was something we wanted to avoid. We have to learn to win points in different situations,” Le Bris said.

Bournemouth manager Marco Rose expressed relief at his side’s breakthrough after a difficult start to their Premier League campaign. He also praised the support from the fans, saying, “To hear them chant my name felt good. I just say thanks for the support and patience.”

Rose singled out striker Evanilson for special commendation, highlighting his hard work on and off the ball. “He was brilliant — he always works hard for the team in and out of possession,” Rose noted.

Looking ahead, Rose emphasized the importance of building momentum from this victory as Bournemouth prepares to face AC Milan in the Europa League later this week. “We should use this game to build confidence for the Milan game which is big for us,” he said.
