Tufan Erhurrman, president of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), was hospitalized on the evening of July 10 after falling ill during a public event in the Old Town area of Nicosia, the divided capital of Cyprus, local media reported. Erhurrman was receiving medical attention at the scene before being transported to a hospital by ambulance.

According to a statement from Health Minister Hakan Dincyurek cited by local sources, Erhurrman underwent an angiography that showed no abnormalities in his main artery, and his overall condition was described as stable. The president is expected to remain under observation until all necessary tests are completed.

Erhurrman, who assumed office in October 2025, leads the TRNC, a self-declared state on the northern third of Cyprus recognized only by Turkey. The island has been divided since 1974, following Turkey’s military intervention in response to a coup by Greek Cypriots aiming for unification with Greece. The internationally recognized Republic of Cyprus governs the southern portion and is a member of the European Union.

President Erhurrman is noted for favoring reunification efforts through a federal solution encompassing both the northern and southern parts of the island, differing from his predecessor's support for maintaining two separate states. His tenure has thus far emphasized a more conciliatory approach toward resolving the longstanding division.
