A family-owned market in Northern California has been recognized as the best pie shop in the United States by USA Today’s 10 Best Readers’ Choice Awards. Ikeda’s California Country Market, which operates locations in Auburn and Davis, received the top honor for its extensive selection of pies and longstanding commitment to quality.

Founded more than 50 years ago by Sally Ikeda and her late husband Sam, the market began as a small fruit stand near Interstate 80 outside Sacramento. Over the decades, it has evolved into a popular destination known for its authentic country charm and a wide variety of pies, including fruit pies, butter crumb-topped cobblers, hand pies, cream pies, and pot pies—all made with the market’s original pie crust recipe.

Co-owner Derick Ikeda emphasized the importance of using fresh and high-quality ingredients. “We’ve been doing our pies for 50 to 60 years now, and we use very fresh ingredients,” he said, noting that the fruit used in their pies is either farm-quality or carefully selected for freshness.
