Putrajaya authorities will issue notices next week to Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) deputy president Datuk Seri M. Saravanan, his wife, and their two children requiring them to declare their assets, according to Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman. The notices are scheduled to be handed over on Monday at the MACC headquarters, after which the family will have one month to comply.

Abd Halim explained that the asset declaration process follows procedures outlined under the MACC Act. He added that Saravanan’s third child, who is currently studying in London, will receive a separate notice in November.

Saravanan is currently facing legal proceedings after pleading not guilty to three graft charges involving over RM1 million linked to foreign worker approvals. The case is being heard at the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur.

On a related note, the MACC’s statement recording for former Felda chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Isa Samad has been temporarily suspended due to the latter undergoing eye surgery at Hospital Serdang. Abd Halim indicated that the process will resume once Mohd Isa’s health status is confirmed by the Prisons Department. He also mentioned that investigators expect to obtain additional information from the former chairman.

Investigations around Felda and Felda Investment Corporation Sdn Bhd (FIC) are ongoing, with charges expected against two individuals connected to alleged irregularities involving the Kuala Lumpur Vertical City (KLVC) project. The former Felda general manager will face a charge under Section 420 of the Penal Code, with a court case scheduled for September 30. Meanwhile, the former CEO of FIC is to be charged under Section 417 on September 29.

Separately, the inquiry into the Baja 3 fertiliser case in Kedah has concluded. Abd Halim said the findings will be forwarded to the Attorney General’s Chambers for consideration of prosecution. If approved, charges against two unidentified suspects may be filed within the next one to two weeks.

During the 5th National Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption Research Conference, where Abd Halim spoke, six research topics were presented, covering issues such as integrity enforcement in the mining sector and the role of crowdfunding in trust companies. Abd Halim highlighted the importance of such research to address the specific challenges in governance and anti-corruption efforts.

The event was also attended by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul.
