Nottingham Forest have appointed Oliver Glasner as their new head coach, marking the club’s fifth managerial change in less than a year. Glasner, who departed Crystal Palace at the end of the previous season, takes charge amid lingering tensions between the two clubs.

The strained relationship dates back to last season when Crystal Palace was disqualified from the Europa League over a breach of multi-club ownership regulations. Nottingham Forest, having pushed the issue with UEFA, replaced Palace in the competition. Palace chairman Steve Parish condemned the ruling as “probably one of the greatest injustices that has ever happened in European football.”

Glasner’s tenure at Palace was marked by notable successes, including leading the club to its first major trophy with a victory in the 2025 FA Cup during his inaugural season. He also guided Palace to triumph in the UEFA Conference League after their demotion from the Europa League. While Nottingham Forest publicly celebrated Glasner’s achievements on their official website, their profile of the Austrian coach made no direct reference to Crystal Palace, instead describing his period in the Premier League as a “trophy-laden two-and-a-half-year spell” highlighted by an Emirates FA Cup medal and success in the UEFA Conference League.

Evangelos Marinakis, owner of Nottingham Forest, praised Glasner as “a winner” who shares the club’s “vision, ambition and relentless desire to succeed.” Marinakis emphasized the long-term goal of restoring Nottingham Forest to prominence both domestically and in European competition.

Glasner assumes control following the recent dismissal of Vítor Pereira, who was sacked last week just before a contract break clause expired. Pereira had helped Forest avoid relegation during a turbulent season that saw three previous managers—Nuno Espírito Santo, Ange Postecoglou, and Sean Dyche—sacked. Under Marinakis’s ownership, only Nuno and Steve Cooper managed to remain in charge for more than 20 games.

Expressing confidence in his new role, Glasner stated, “It was evident to me they have a clear vision for this club and complete trust and belief in me and my staff to build a strong future together.” The Austrian coach appears poised to lead Forest with backing from the club’s hierarchy as they seek stability and progress after a period of managerial upheaval.
