Nottingham Forest have appointed Oliver Glasner as their new head coach, marking the club's fifth managerial change in less than a year. The Austrian, who left Crystal Palace at the end of the previous season, took over from Vitor Pereira at the City Ground. Pereira, 57, expressed that his departure was “a complete surprise and without any warning.”

Glasner, 51, has highlighted the trust and clear vision demonstrated by Forest’s leadership as significant factors in his decision to join the club. “It was evident to me that they have a clear vision for this football club and complete trust and belief in me and my staff to build a strong future together over the long term,” he said.

Before joining Forest, Glasner had notable success, having led Crystal Palace to multiple trophies, including the FA Cup, the Community Shield, and the Conference League. He also guided Eintracht Frankfurt to UEFA Europa League victory in the 2021-22 season. His appointment at Forest came as a surprise to some, especially given that he had been linked with other prominent roles, including the head coach position for the Germany national team and a potential move to AC Milan.

Forest’s new owner, Evangelos Marinakis, emphasized the alignment of ambitions between Glasner and the club. Marinakis stated that their shared vision is not only to compete but to win and challenge for major honours both in England and Europe. He described Glasner as a “winner” who has proven his ability to build strong teams and achieve success at the highest levels.

Glasner expressed his ambition to restore the club to its historic status, invoking the legacy of Brian Clough, the legendary Forest manager who won multiple domestic and European trophies during his tenure. “Nottingham Forest is a club with incredible prestige and history, a two-time European champion with one of the most passionate fan bases in football,” Glasner said. “Our aim is to build a team that can help take the club to the next level in the years ahead.”

The managerial instability at Forest has been pronounced over the past 12 months, with the club moving through four previous coaches — Nuno Espírito Santo, Ange Postecoglou, Sean Dyche, and most recently Pereira — before settling on Glasner.

Glasner underscored his commitment to representing the club with pride and delivering success on the pitch, stating, “I will work tirelessly to represent this great club with pride and to bring success on the pitch. I can’t wait to get started.”
