Pubs and clubs across New South Wales are preparing for a surge of patrons as fans gather to support the NSW Blues in the upcoming State of Origin decider, which will be held at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium. Hospitality venues are anticipating heightened activity despite the match taking place interstate, with many supporters opting to watch the event in communal settings.

Caitlin Wilcox, brand manager at the Sackville Hotel in Rozelle, described the atmosphere following the Blues’ victory in the series opener as the most vibrant she has witnessed at the venue. She noted that while regular events like trivia attract crowds, the State of Origin series generates a significantly higher level of excitement.

Similarly, The Clock in Surry Hills is expecting strong attendance for the third game of the series. General manager Hannah Geary reported that business had been robust for the first two matches, with the venue reaching capacity, drawing approximately 300 patrons each night.

Paul Nicolaou, executive director of Business Sydney, remarked that the series’ current 1-1 tie was beneficial for local hospitality businesses. He said the evenly poised contest contributes to an energized atmosphere among fans, leading to larger crowds and increased patronage at pubs and clubs across New South Wales.

Despite the challenges hospitality venues often face on weekday evenings after 8 p.m., the State of Origin matches are proving to be lucrative exceptions, attracting significant numbers of football supporters eager to experience the communal excitement surrounding one of Australia’s most high-profile sporting events.
