A nurse from Warrington, Cheshire, has been banned from practice for selling unlicensed weight loss injections to multiple clients, including one individual weighing approximately 10 stone. Deborah Davison sold vials labeled as containing Mounjaro, a medication approved in the UK, but tests revealed the product actually contained retatrutide, a stronger drug not authorized for sale in the country.
An interim hearing conducted by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) heard that Davison marketed the injections, nicknamed "Godzilla" fat jabs, through her beauty business. According to the hearing, she sold the unlicensed medication for £120 per vial. Barrister Sila Akin, representing the council, stated that Davison had “deliberately engaged in misconduct” by supplying the drugs on the black market.
Akin added that Davison acted beyond her professional competence and training, highlighting the risks posed to public safety when medications are prescribed or administered without proper qualifications. The NMC panel imposed an 18-month suspension on Davison’s nursing registration pending a full investigation.
The temporary ban means Davison is prohibited from working as a nurse during the investigation period. Following the full inquiry, she may face permanent removal from the nursing register if the council finds further evidence of professional misconduct.
The case underscores ongoing concerns about the unregulated sale of prescription medications through unofficial channels and the potential dangers to patients who receive treatments from practitioners without the necessary training or approvals.
