New York City police are actively searching for a suspect believed to have sexually assaulted a 21-year-old woman at knifepoint in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village in late June. The incident occurred around 4:40 a.m. on June 27 near the intersection of West 10th Street and Fifth Avenue.

According to authorities, the assailant approached the woman, threatened her with a knife, and forcibly raped her before fleeing the scene. The suspect remains at large as police continue their investigation.

Law enforcement officials have released surveillance photos showing the individual aboard a subway train following the attack. In the images, the suspect is seen wearing a white T-shirt, jeans, and black sneakers with fluorescent green or yellow accents. At the time of the assault, he was reportedly carrying an olive green jacket.

This case comes amid a troubling series of recent sexual assaults in New York City. Just four days earlier, police charged Hernandez Cantu, 36, with raping a 13-year-old girl in a Bronx park. Cantu faces multiple counts including sexual abuse, sexual misconduct, and acting in a manner injurious to a child under 17.

Additionally, on June 14, a 21-year-old woman was raped at the West 125th Street subway station near the Apollo Theater in Harlem. Police stated that the perpetrator was someone known to the victim, describing it as a date-related assault.

City officials and law enforcement have appealed to the public for assistance in identifying and locating the Greenwich Village suspect. They are urging anyone with information to come forward to aid in the investigation.
