NZME is intensifying its focus on the Canterbury region with the launch of Project Canterbury, a comprehensive report highlighting the area's economic growth, innovation, investment opportunities, and future potential. The initiative exemplifies NZME's broader strategy to deepen engagement in Canterbury by connecting local businesses with wider audiences, supporting community events, and expanding regional news and entertainment offerings.

NZME maintains a strong media presence in the region through prominent brands such as NZ Herald, Newstalk ZB, The Hits, and OneRoof. These outlets are supported by a Christchurch-based team dedicated to serving local communities, advertisers, and audiences. The company sees significant potential to increase its investment in local storytelling and foster closer partnerships with businesses, agencies, and community groups across Canterbury.

In a key leadership appointment, NZME announced that Maria O’Halloran will join as General Manager Canterbury later this month. O’Halloran is a well-regarded business leader with extensive experience in the region, having served more than a decade as Chief Executive of Ballantynes, a historic Christchurch department store, and most recently as CEO of Nutrient Rescue. She also holds governance roles within the community, including Chair of BrainTree Wellness Centre and Associate Director of Venues Ōtautahi.

Michael Boggs, NZME Chief Executive, underscored that bringing O’Halloran on board signals the company’s serious commitment to Canterbury. He expressed confidence that her expertise and local connections would enhance the company’s efforts alongside its current Christchurch team.

Boggs emphasized Canterbury’s importance as a central driver of New Zealand’s economic growth and future prospects, reaffirming NZME’s dedication to ongoing investment and support in the region.
