Rosemarie “Rory” Hodsdon, a longtime educator and community volunteer, died peacefully on August 25, 2026, in Carmichael, California. She was 96 years old and is survived by her husband of 70 years, George Hodsdon, along with their two sons, Jeffrey and Kevin Hodsdon, three grandchildren, and one great-grandson.

Born Rosemarie Gareau on July 11, 1930, in San Pedro, California, she demonstrated academic dedication early, graduating high school two years ahead of schedule. After completing initial studies at Compton College, she transferred to the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she earned her teaching degree and joined the Alpha Delta Pi sorority.

Hodsdon devoted much of her life to education, teaching for 15 years within the Los Angeles Unified School District. In 1969, she and her family relocated to Sacramento, where she continued her career until retiring from the San Juan Unified School District in 1994.

Known for her warm personality and remarkable memory for names and family details, Hodsdon was an active member of her community. She regularly volunteered for local activities, including managing a church food locker and operating a little league snack bar. She maintained diverse interests such as playing bridge, reading travel brochures, completing the New York Times crossword puzzle, and tending to neighborhood cats.

Her passing leaves a legacy of dedication both as a wife and mother and as an engaged community member. Arrangements include a viewing on September 23 at St Mary Cemetery and Mortuary in Sacramento, followed by a funeral Mass and burial on September 24 at Our Lady of the Assumption Church and St Mary’s Cemetery. A reception for family and friends will take place afterward.
