The Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Election Committee has initiated preparations to introduce electronic and remote voting for its upcoming elections. The committee convened its first meeting under the chairmanship of Ghalib bin Said al Maamari, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion for Commerce and Industry, to review key regulatory and technical frameworks ahead of the vote.

The session focused on finalizing the work plan, overseeing the various phases of the electoral process, and coordinating efforts with government bodies and other stakeholders involved in organising the elections. Members examined the proposed election timetable and procedural details, with official dates and further information expected to be released in due course to allow the business community sufficient time to prepare for participation.

A significant portion of the discussions was dedicated to the implementation of electronic voting systems, which aim to streamline the voting process, enhance efficiency, and expedite the completion of electoral procedures. This initiative follows recent amendments in the regulations governing the chamber’s election committees, which now permit the approval and use of electronic voting devices and remote voting mechanisms.

Al Maamari emphasized that the committee is working to fulfill all regulatory, technical, and technological obligations in compliance with existing legislation and in collaboration with relevant authorities. The goal is to establish a transparent and well-organized electoral environment where eligible voters can exercise their rights with ease and confidence.
