Several notable restaurant openings and menu updates are reshaping New York City's dining landscape this summer, highlighting a range of international and contemporary culinary offerings.
Jungsik Yim, the chef behind the three-Michelin-starred TriBeCa establishment Jungsik, has launched a new pan-Asian concept named MUJE near Penn Station. The restaurant offers an eight-course tasting menu priced at $150, considerably more accessible than Jungsik’s $335 ten-course menu. MUJE’s dishes serve as a culinary exploration of various Asian regions, with servers providing explanations of each course's influence. For example, a creamy soybean noodle dish reflects Korean and Japanese flavors, while a charcoal-grilled salmon with red curry and razor clams nods to Thai and Chinese cuisines. The setting is lavish, featuring a gilded green willow mural that anchors the decor. MUJE is located at 151 West 30th Street.
After a six-month renovation, Cipriani Dolci, the all-day dining venue known for both sweet and savory offerings, has reopened with a fresh nautical-inspired design. The revamped space incorporates a blue and white color scheme with striped blue carpeting. Its updated menu balances well-known savory dishes such as carpaccio, baked tagliolini with ham, and veal Milanese alongside a prominent dessert selection showcased in a central glass vitrine. Signature sweets include ricotta cheesecake, vanilla meringue cake, and cannoli. Cipriani Dolci is situated on the West Balcony of Grand Central Terminal at 89 East 42nd Street.
Also making its debut this week is Maison Madison in Battery Park City, adding to the neighborhood’s French culinary options. The restaurant, from restaurateurs Abraham Merchant and James Belakh, evokes Parisian glamour through its interior design featuring marble, brass accents, candlelight, and crystal chandeliers. Chef Antelmo Ambrosio’s menu includes French staples such as escargots, French onion sliders, mushroom vol-au-vent, steak frites au poivre, and a layered potato pavé topped with caviar. Maison Madison opens on Friday at 301 South End Avenue, near Albany Street.
In TriBeCa, the Indian restaurant Tamarind is commemorating its 25th anniversary with a special feast menu available through July 25. The 18-dish tasting menu, priced at $125 per person, offers a blend of long-standing favorites like Kalimirch lamb chops and dal makhni along with new dishes such as Malabar lobster and tikki tofu with tandoori spices. The feast is designed to be ordered for the entire table and can be found at 99 Hudson Street near Franklin Street.
For a fast-casual option, Rowdy Rooster—a branch of Unapologetic Foods, known for brands like Semma and Adda—has introduced a butter chicken sandwich. The sandwich features the restaurant’s fried chicken served on a grilled potato bun with spiced onions and a generous coating of butter chicken sauce, priced at $14. Rowdy Rooster is located at 140 West 32nd Street.
These openings and menu innovations reflect the ongoing dynamism of New York’s culinary scene, offering diners a variety of tastes and experiences across the city’s diverse neighborhoods.
