The Office of the Attorney General in Oman has issued a statement urging the public to exercise caution and responsibility in their use of social media. The statement, released on Sunday in Muscat, emphasized the importance of respecting countries, their symbols, and peoples, as well as safeguarding the diplomatic relations maintained by the Sultanate of Oman.
Authorities called on individuals to demonstrate awareness and wisdom in their expressions and actions online. They warned against engaging in behaviors that could be deemed offensive or harmful to other nations or that might jeopardize Oman's international relationships.
The Office underscored its commitment to enforcing legal measures against violations, including acts committed through publishing, republishing, sharing, or inciting content deemed criminal under Omani law. Enforcement will be carried out in accordance with provisions outlined in the Cybercrime Law, specifically Articles 20, 23, and 26.
These articles address offenses related to online speech and conduct, reflecting Oman’s efforts to regulate digital communications and maintain public order. The Office of the Attorney General’s statement serves as a reminder to users of digital platforms to uphold legal and ethical standards in their interactions, particularly in the context of increasingly influential social media channels.
