Kuwait’s Minister of Social Affairs and Family and Childhood Affairs has initiated an investigation into several officials at the Handicapped Care and Rehabilitation Center in Sabahiyah following an unannounced inspection of the facility. The center, which operates under the Public Authority for Persons with Disabilities, provides care and rehabilitation services to residents with disabilities.
The surprise visit took place recently, with Minister Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah personally overseeing the review. The inspection assessed a variety of operational aspects, including the quality and preparation of food, laundry services, cleanliness, safety standards, and general living conditions within the center. The minister emphasized that the intention was to ensure that residents receive adequate care and that all departments meet the required standards.
Minister Al-Huwailah highlighted that the investigation was triggered by findings relating to the health, safety, and dignity of residents. She stated that any negligence compromising these aspects would not be tolerated, underscoring the government’s commitment to maintaining high-quality care. The minister confirmed that she would closely monitor the investigation process and address all issues identified during the field inspection.
The Ministry further announced that surprise inspections like this would continue periodically to enforce compliance and guarantee that appropriate standards are consistently upheld at the facility. Al-Huwailah stressed that the wellbeing and rights of center residents are a paramount responsibility, describing them as a “trust that cannot be taken lightly.” The ministry has not specified the exact nature of the alleged shortcomings, but has indicated that firm action will be taken against any officials found responsible for lapses in care or safety.
