The NFL has suspended two game officials for unprofessional conduct toward players during recent games. Line judge Jeff Seeman was suspended for two games following an incident in which he was caught on camera swearing at Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride during a game against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium. Meanwhile, referee Adrian Hill received a one-game suspension for his behavior toward Minnesota Vikings linebacker Eric Wilson during a matchup between Minnesota and Miami.

Seeman’s incident occurred late in the Cardinals’ loss to the Giants. The exchange was triggered after officials declined to call a pass interference or illegal contact penalty on Giants defender Dru Phillips, who made contact with McBride before the ball arrived. During the exchange, Seeman was seen directing explicit language at McBride. Arizona coach Mike LaFleur acknowledged the incident, saying it was regrettable and that such conduct should not occur but also expressing a degree of sympathy for Seeman, describing him as a “good man.”

The suspension was announced by Ramon George, the NFL’s vice president of officiating. NFL Players Association executive director JC Tretter publicly condemned Seeman’s behavior, stating that players are regularly held accountable for their actions and that officials should be subject to the same standards. The incident gained widespread attention after video of Seeman’s outburst was posted online, garnering millions of views.

The second suspension involved referee Adrian Hill, who was penalized for an incident during the Vikings’ victory over the Miami Dolphins. After an accidental collision with linebacker Eric Wilson knocked Hill to the ground, Wilson attempted to help Hill up. Hill responded by yelling at Wilson and gesturing for him to move away, which was deemed unprofessional conduct by league officials.

CBS reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala, who was present during the Seeman-McBride incident, noted that McBride was visibly frustrated and had pleaded with officials for a pass interference flag but did not use profanity. She described McBride as saying, “You’re ruining the game,” before the exchange escalated.

The NFL’s disciplinary actions underscore an effort to maintain professionalism and respect between officials and players on the field. Both suspensions reflect the league’s stance that unsportsmanlike behavior from officials is unacceptable and subject to consequences, mirroring the accountability expected of players.
